RSA: Ed, as we get older it gets harder and harder to stay in shape. What do you do in
the off months to get ready for the upcoming season?
Ed: Starting in November playing indoor at TSE twice a week until April. The wife and I
spend the month of February in Sarasota and I am able to work out with teams there,
hitting / fielding etc. In March I spend a lot of time on my stationary bike and do some
work with weights.
RSA: You’ve played in the Hall of Fame summer classic since its inception. What do
you like most about the game?
Ed: Other than being inducted, I feel the annual HOF summer classic is the best event
we do. It gives all of us a chance to be with each other especially the ones we do not see that
often. It really brings guys together. All those putting it together do a great job. I play
every year because I love it.
RSA: If there was one rule you could adopt for senior softball, what would it be?
Ed: I would universally like to see all games, league and tournament alike adopt starting
with a 1 and 1 count. I feel it would keep games more on schedule and almost always guarantee
playing 7 full innings.
RSA: Ed, you’ve been playing senior softball for 20 plus years now, mostly with
the same guys. What is your definition of a good teammate?
Ed: My definition would be a teammate that cares more about how the team does
than his own statistics. After all this is a team game and that is very important to me.
As well, playing with the same guys year after year, is the time we spend together off the
field. Great for team comradery.
RSA: You’ve been all over the country playing softball. What complex did you like the best?
Ed: Major League Field of Dreams, replicas of major league stadiums that I have played
in both in Houston and Las Vegas.
