RSA: You started the Henrietta Hots hitting club. How do you feel the response has been?
Craig: The Henrietta Hots Hitting Club was really born out of Covid. A group of
around 20 of us would get together and hit during the Covid shutdown. The following
season when leagues opened back up a number of guys said they wanted to keep hitting, so the
Hitting Club was born in 2021. The response has been fantastic. Every season the number of new
members rise. We have had enough players show up we had to use 3 fields on multiple occasions
this year. We think that the best part is that people are starting to realize that the hitting
club is for everyone, not just travel players.

RSA: Do you have plans to add a defensive aspect in the future?
Craig: That’s a great question. I think if there was enough interest in defensive
practices, we would be open to it for sure. The challenge is we need more help to do it. We
are definitely big fans of Gogos boot camp during the winter months. Joe does a phenomenal job
of teaching defensive mechanics and many of us attend it regularly.

RSA: You have coached for many years. For softball, what do you look for when forming a team?
Craig: When building a team, we look for the right players. Not necessarily the best.
Character and a sense of ‘we’ is paramount.

RSA: Every good pitcher approaches a game with a distinct attitude, an approach on how
to affect the game. Do you feel a confident demeanor is crucial when you pitch?

Craig: Pitching is all about confidence and a strong mentality! It’s a big ball pitched
slow, so I believe you have to do something to make the batter question themselves. The real
challenge in Senior softball is that most hitters are confident enough to understand that it is a
a big ball pitched slowly underhand.

RSA: Where do you see Rochester Softball in 10 years?
Craig: I truly hope in 10 years Senior softball in Rochester continues to grow. Hopefully
we can add another Senior complex in the area and possibly even host some tournaments. Rochester
has always been an absolute hotbed of softball. Our tradition of great teams at all levels has been
outstanding! I’d be thrilled if someone opened Ronnies ballpark back up to help grow the sport we
all love.
